Oriental massage is a therapeutic procedure in its own right but is mentioned here because some massage manipulations are used in acupuncture as part of diagnostic palpation and are also frequently used very briefly before and after an acupuncture session. Oriental massage techniques appear to have aspects in common with Western methods, but the similarities are more in appearance than in purpose or effect.
